Solar Electrical System or Solar PV System
The Solar Electrical System or Solar PV System is a syatem which collects sunlight and converts it to electrical power for use.
A basic system consists of solar panels which are made of many solar cells, an inverter and/or batteries for electrical power storage. The solar cells have three different major kinds: mono-crystalline silicon, poly-crystalline silicon and amorphous silicon. The mono-crystalline silicon solar cells have the hightest efficiency of 17% and connected in series to produce Direct Current, it is the Inverter which converts the Direct Current to Alternate Current to be used by our appliances.
There are two types of Solar PV system: Stand-alone system and Grid-connected system. The Stand-alone system is a system which has no connection to city electrical grid, therefore, this system usually requires to have batteries for power storage to meet electrical power demand for use during night time.
The Grid-connected system is a system which connects to the city electrical power grid, the system will automatically swich to city power at night or in the case where solar PV system will not meet the power requirement alone. Both system are reliable and require very little mainyenance. The solar PV system can be installed on the roof, on the ground or any open space as long as the panels are facing South and there is no shadows casting on the panels.
